Edulis Superba
Herbaceous, Lactiflora, Pink, Double Bomb, Early Midseason, Fragrant, Historic, 85cm, 34”
An absolute classic, Edulis Superba was one of the earliest peonies to be developed in the early 1800s when Europeans first discovered lactifloras and brought them in from China. Highly prized as a cut flower for almost 200 years, its growing habit is as old-fashioned as its gorgeous double-bomb style blossoms and its glorious fragrance. This means that it will most likely need support when in bloom. But it's a tough old bird - it survives our dogs rampaging around the garden chasing chipmunks, and is a dependable, rewarding bloomer. This variety is also used successfully when grafting tree peonies. (Lemon, France,1824)
